Ho Chi Minh City develops high-tech economy: Inevitable and urgent

Mr. Nguyen Trung Chinh, CMC Technology Group, asked Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh in the policy dialogue session: “Recently, on the occasion of September 2, General Secretary and President To Lam mentioned digital transformation as a revolution and a driving force for changing production relations to suit the productive forces. Does the Prime Minister think that digital transformation is a revolution and a driving force?”.

Mr. Chinh also cited the increasingly developing artificial intelligence (AI) and predicted that by 2030 it will create 15,700 billion USD, a growth of 15%. If Vietnam applies it well, it can also create a GDP of 150 – 200 billion USD.

Frankly answering questions from the business community, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh said that this issue is both in line with the world trend and the Vietnamese situation, in line with the different potential, outstanding opportunities, and competitive advantages of Vietnam, and in fact, Vietnam is moving in that direction. Digital transformation and green transformation not only help strengthen and strengthen the productive forces but also contribute to implementing advanced production relations. This is a major policy that Vietnam is moving in the right direction.

The Prime Minister said that industrial transformation must both renew traditional industries (such as mechanical engineering, chemicals, etc.) and develop new industries with a broader concept, related to new fields such as digital economy, green economy, sharing economy, circular economy, knowledge economy, and night-time economy.

To do this, he clearly stated that it is necessary to build and perfect institutions. Recently, the National Assembly issued a resolution on a number of specific mechanisms and policies for Ho Chi Minh City. Along with that, develop synchronous and modern infrastructure; focus on training high-quality human resources; smart governance. In addition, there must be solutions to mobilize resources through promoting public-private partnership, which Ho Chi Minh City has the conditions to do and must do.

Ho Chi Minh City must build a smooth infrastructure, open institutions, smart governance, create favorable conditions for investors, increase support for businesses and improve the environment, business investment, enhance competitiveness. The success of investors is the success of Ho Chi Minh City and Vietnam.

“The situation changes and we must have a way to change our behavior to adapt to the situation, continue to develop and move forward. Solutions as well as ways of doing things must change,” Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh shared with the community of investors and foreign enterprises.
